AI Makes Building Fun Again

I’ve been building software for a long time, and while I have always been interested in how things work, I’ve always felt like software was a means to an end. I wanted to build things that worked, that had value, that made a difference in some way.

The last few years, I have found myself with less time to tinker than I used to have. Looking at my “project backlog” would make me sad, as I knew I would never get to most of the interesting things I wanted to do. But now with AI, it feels I’ve gotten some of the time back. While there will always be more work, some of the big projects - like completely redoing my homelab setup - became doable in my limited time. AI has taken away the tedium of hitting errors in syntax, in putting together the correct boilerplate, in spending time looking through error messages. AI has allowed me to make decisions more quickly and has automated the rest. There are many conversatiosn about AI and what the future holds - but right now, for me, AI has made building fun again.
